Salta Workshop 2026
Salta Cluster
Salta, the Institute for Agriculture in Salinizing Deltas, is actively working on the challenges surrounding saliization and the freshwater supply of the Dutch coast. Salta unlocks knowledge, develops new projects, shares practival experiences, and showcases innovations in managing saltwater. Salta is a national network organisation currently comprising 40 private an public sector partners across the Netherlands.
During the Salta International Workshop 2026, you work closely together with an international community, on practical solutions for agriculture in salinizing deltas. Freshwater scarcity and salt-affected soils are increasingly challenging agriculture and water management in the north of the Netherlands and the rest of the world. UNESCO World Heritage Wouda Gemaal
If you visit Friesland, you will pass through Lemmer, the ‘gateway’ to Friesland. Whether you travel by water or by land via the A6, somewhere on the horizon you will see the 60-metre-long chimney of one of the Netherlands’ finest crown jewels: the Ir. D.F. Woudagemaal. The largest still-functioning steam pumping station in the world dates from 1920 and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998. This monumental steam giant is still used by Wetterskip Fryslân to keep feet dry in Friesland when water levels are too high.

Afsluitdijk Wadden Center
On the Afsluitdijk, near Kornwerderzand, stands a striking building, like a foam collar on the dike: the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. This center offers a comprehensive experience covering the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Wadden Sea, the unique Fish Migration River currently under construction, the IJsselmeer region, and, of course, the Afsluitdijk itself. Against this interactive backdrop, visitors gain a vivid impression of the surrounding area, as well as the many hydraulic engineering and other innovative projects that will be realized here in the coming years in collaboration with our partners.

The Planetarium Room is the heart of the Eise Eisinga Planetarium. The model of the sun with its six planets orbiting it still works, making it the oldest working planetarium in the world. During your visit, you'll receive an explanation in the Planetarium Room. This explanation takes about 15 minutes. You can explore the rest of the museum, including the gears, on your own.

Friesland is easily accessible and has excellent infrastructure. You can be on Frisian soil with both feet within an hour from Amsterdam; that is, if you don't stop every so often to enjoy the view. Half an hour further and you're in downtown Leeuwarden. You don't even have to stand in traffic jams. The parking fees make you spontaneously smile and parking is plentiful. Friesland is just an hour's drive from Amsterdam Schiphol international airport, you even reach Leeuwarden by direct train under twp hours. Intercity trains connect Leeuwarden and Heerenveen with the rest of the Netherlands while you enjoy the beautiful countryside.
