A few kilometers off the Frisian coast are the famous Kornwerderzand casemates on the Afsluitdijk. It is the only place in Europe where the German Blitzkrieg stalled in the May days of 1940. Only 225 Dutch soldiers managed to hold off some 17,000 Germans. A story to be proud of
