Every summer Frisian lakes host races in which original tjalken (skutsjes) compete against each other in a sailing competition. After two weeks of SKS skûtsjesilen, the IFKS skûtsjesilen, or Open Frisian Championship skûtsjesilen, gets underway. The IFKS championship is sailed every year during the construction season with 60 to 65 skûtsjes in four classes.
